Temporary Technology Assistant

Department: Tech-Computer Cntr & Support
Location: HONOLULU, HI

SALARY RANGE: $18.00 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Technology Assistant will assist the Technology department with equipment collection, preparation, distribution, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Equipment collection duties are as follows:

  • Manage check-in lines to keep traffic moving smoothly & instruct users as needed.
  • Collect equipment from students/employees.
  • Assist with faculty device swaps, ensure Apple Account is logged out.
  • Separate and organize returned equipment.
  • Take inventory of returned equipment.
  • Ensuring all returned equipment has been erased properly and documented.
  • Assist with clearing devices from our Device Enrollment Program.
  • Checking returned equipment for damages.
  • Cleaning returned equipment to prep for reuse or sale.
  • Packing returned equipment in boxes/packing material per vendor requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

New equipment prep duties are as follows:

  • Assist with inventory of incoming equipment.
  • Separate iPads for Device Enrollment Program workflow per faculty/students.
  • Preparation of new equipment for distribution, including software installation and configuration.
  • Asset tagging of new equipment as needed.
  • Stacking and moving of boxes as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Equipment distribution duties are as follows:

  • Assist with set up and organization of venue for distribution.
  • Assist with transport of devices to distribution location, if needed.
  • Assist with assigning devices to users using an internal inventory system.
  • Assist with keeping distribution lines moving smoothly.
  • Other duties as required.

Other Technology Duties

Training will be provided for these duties if we require your assistance.

  • Assist in setting up various technology labs across campus.
  • Assist with technology equipment maintenance around campus.
  • Assist IT staff with networking projects, server configuration, backup rotation.

General Expectations

  • Care should be taken at all times when handling devices to avoid damage.
  • We'll do our best to guide you through the various duties and tasks required.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you are unsure what to do.
  • If you have completed an assignment or task, inquire with the Technology staff about what to do next.
  • Hours are flexible. Please let us know if you need to adjust your schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • Proficient using macOS, iOS and Apple hardware
  • Experience using Google Workspace applications (Docs and Sheets)
  • Self-starter with attention to detail
  • Open to learning new skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FileMaker Pro and Google sheets/Excel spreadsheets
  • Able to lift heavy boxes, not more than 30 pounds

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a temporary, part-time position from May 1, 2025 – August 31, 2025. The IT Assistant will work no more than 19 hours per week within standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. The exact schedule will be determined based on departmental needs and the candidate’s availability. Some flexibility may be required depending on workload and project deadlines.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis must frequently problem solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
