Day Custodian

Department: Facility Services
Location: HONOLULU, HI

SALARY RANGE: $16.00 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY: The Day Custodian works under the Custodial Services Supervisor. The position performs duties and routine manual labor necessary to keep campus facilities in a clean, orderly and healthy condition. Work hours are Monday – Friday. 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM. Must be able to work flexible hours during school breaks, special events, and weekends, as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, wax and polish floors.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, drinking fountains, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect furniture, doors and windowsills.
  • Clean and disinfect any other areas as directed by supervisor.
  • Clean walls and windows, including graffiti.
  • Collect refuse from designated areas and dispose of it.
  • Provide emergency clean-up of leaks, accidents, and bodily fluids.
  • Provide labor services as needed for furniture moves and special events.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor and follow up as necessary.
  • Report any maintenance issues or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Clean off-campus facilities used by the School as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with set-up/clean-up of tables, chairs, tarps, tents, etc. for school functions.
  • Provide labor services to move furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Perform any duties required to support the operation and function of the School.

  • Report any safety concerns or hazards immediately to your supervisor.
  • Report any injury or illness immediately to your Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Do not place others at risk by any act or omission.
  • Do not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment, practices, or procedures.
  • Do not disable or by-pass any safety devices on tools or equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess, and control hazards within your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that tools/equipment/supplies are properly stocked and maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a valid driver's license to operate a golf cart.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Able to accurately follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to work as part of a team or independently when needed.
  • Maintain a professional and polished appearance that aligns with the school’s standards and values.
  • Able to read and understand labels and instructions for cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Able to perform simple mathematics calculations.
  • Have a service-oriented attitude and is able to work well with faculty, staff, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires walking uphill, on stairs, and across playing fields. Will need to bend, lift, and carry items. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). For safety reasons, it is important to see and hear within normal parameters and possess the ability to move around with little to no difficulty. Pre-hire and periodic physical functional capacity tests will be given by a third party to ensure the employee can perform the tasks safely and for the safety of others.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily bases must frequently problem solve, organize, plan, and clearly communicate. Must take the initiative to ensure a clean, safe campus. Must be able to stay motivated and focused performing routine daily tasks efficiently and with high level of quality.

Golf cart.

Outdoor, Loud Noise, Cold and Hot Temperatures - occasionally
